Why Do I Need The God of the Bible?

Hello everyone!

I haven’t been around much. Life always gets busy on our little farm and there is lots of gardening and preserving all the harvest involved.

Now winter has arrived, everything has been put away and life is slowing down.

Toady I posted the below article on my husbands blog and thought that I would just create a link for you to follow.

Thank you for being a loyal follower. It means a lot to me.

Hope you enjoy the post on “Why do I need the God of the Bible?”

Blessings to you all, Elfriede

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 4:5

We are now starting chapter four of Philippians with our study on how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Philippians 4:5 (NKJV)
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Philippians 4:5(NLT)
Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

The Thesaurus defines
gentleness as kindness, tenderness, peacefulness, calmness; and
considerate as thoughtful, kind, understanding, caring, selfless.

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 3:17

We are still in chapter three of Philippians with our study on how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Philippians 3:17 (NKJV)
Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.

Paul is encouraging all believers to follow his and any true brother and sister in Christ’s example on how to follow Christ.

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 3:3

We are continuing in chapter three of Philippians with our study on how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Philippians 3:3 (NKJV)
For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,

This verse contains another “rejoice”, a word we examined last week in Philippians 3 verse 1. However, this time “rejoice” has a different Greek translation –see *G2744- meaning more like “glory”, even akin to the word “boast”.

William MacDonald describes “rejoice” and “have no confidence in the flesh” as follows in his commentary titled ‘Believer’s Bible Commentary’:

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 3:1a

Today we are starting in chapter three of Philippians continuing our study on how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Philippians 3:1a (NKJV)
Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.

Rejoicing in the Lord! Is this an easy task? Do we always rejoice in Him? How do we rejoice in Him?

We know that everything here on earth is temporary but heaven is eternal.

It seems difficult to rejoice when we go through hard or dark looking times. But then how do we define “rejoice” for ourselves? Does it mean to “be happy and laugh all the time”?

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 2:14-16a -continued

We are continuing in Philippians 2:14-16a to find out how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Philippians 2:14-16a (NKJV)
Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life,

We have already looked at the two points complaining and disputing/arguing and why we should refrain from them. Let’s look at the implications and results.

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 2:4

Today we are continuing to look at my list of “Do and Do Not” in the Book of Philippians 2:4, trying to find out how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Philippians 2:4 (NKJV)
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Here we have one “Do Not” and one “Do.”

DO and DO NOT – Book of Philippians 2:3

Today we are continuing to look at my list of “Do and Do Not” in the Book of Philippians Chapter Two, trying to find out how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

So, here we go:

Philippians 2:3 (NKJV)
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Let’s unpack the “Do” and “Do Not”.

Do not be selfish!
Take the example of Jesus Christ; if He had been selfish we would not have the gift of eternal life and would all go to the lake of fire.

Do not try to impress others that would be you taking the glory instead of giving the glory to God.

DO and DO NOT (Philippians 2:2)

Today I am continuing my list of “Do and Do Not” in the Book of Philippians Chapter Two, trying to find out how God expects us to conduct ourselves during this life on earth.

I believe that the Book of Philippians is a God inspired guideline for our walk and being in this world. And, just as a reminder, the Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and it’s important to keep all of it in context.

Now we are going to look at Philippians 2:2:

Philippians 2:2 (NIV)
Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Do we agree wholeheartedly on everything? No!
Do we have to? No! There will always be instances where we are of different opinion. And that is fine, as long as we are in agreement with one another on the most important matter of all times.

DO and DO NOT (Philippians 1:14, 27)

Don’t we all want to know what God expects of us during this life on earth?

I have been studying the Book of Philippians and go back to it quite often to remind myself of the “DO’S and DO NOT’S” which God inspired to give us a guideline in our walk and being in this world. The Book of Philippians is not the only book in the Bible to give advice for life. We have to take the whole of Scripture into consideration and keep it in context.

Now here is my list in regards to the Book of Philippians:

Philippians 1:14 (NIV)
And because of my [this is apostle Paul speaking] chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to [boldly] proclaim the gospel without fear.
